Abroad A Modern Ship Of Discovery.
Mid-Cayman Rise Expedition 2011.
August of 2011, The NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer went on a expedition to the deepest part of the Caribbean Sea, where a team of international scientists both at-sea and on shore investigated the Mid-Cayman Rise – which happens to be a ultra-slow spreading center where two plates will move apart and upwelling magma creates new crust and the adjacent Cayman Trough.Their main purpose of this is to pay attention and focus really hard on the oceanic core that appears to have dominate construction on the rift valley walls along the Mid-Canyman Rise. So they want to go and investigate the marine life around that, however the geology and systems that might be surronding it. They will be mapping the rift valley walls of the Mid-Cayman and the northern walls of the Cayman through the fracture zone using the ships mulitbeam sonar. After 11 long busy days along the Mid-Cayman Rise everything has officially been complete. The Mid-Cayman Rise and the Cayman Trough was later then mapped and they were able to recieve everything they needed and were finally going back home.
